cf smiles dental cleanings

Routine dental cleanings are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. At CF Smiles, we provide several types of dental cleanings depending on the patient’s gum health.

Understanding the differences between these procedures helps patients receive the right treatment for their condition.

D1110 – Routine Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

D1110 is a routine preventive dental cleaning recommended for patients with healthy gums and no signs of periodontal disease.

This cleaning removes:

  • Plaque buildup

  • Tartar (calculus)

  • Surface stains

Routine cleanings are typically recommended every six months to maintain optimal oral health.

D4346 – Scaling in the Presence of Gingival Inflammation

D4346 is recommended when a patient has gingivitis with gum inflammation but no bone loss.

This procedure focuses on removing plaque and tartar buildup around the gumline to reduce inflammation and prevent gum disease from progressing.

This treatment is often necessary when routine cleanings are not sufficient due to gum irritation.

Patients with bleeding gums or early gum disease may benefit from this type of cleaning.

D4341 – Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

D4341 is commonly known as a deep cleaning and is recommended for patients diagnosed with periodontal disease and bone loss.

This treatment involves cleaning below the gumline and smoothing the tooth roots to remove bacteria and tartar that cause gum infection.

Benefits of scaling and root planing:

  • Reduces gum infection

  • Stops periodontal disease progression

  • Helps gums reattach to teeth

  • Prevents tooth loss

D4910 – Periodontal Maintenance

After periodontal treatment, patients require periodontal maintenance visits to control gum disease and maintain gum health.

These cleanings are typically scheduled every three to four months to prevent the return of harmful bacteria.

Regular periodontal maintenance is essential for patients with a history of gum disease.
